The Vancouver city achieve is happy to announce the publication of the BC Gay and Lesbian achieve, in Vancouver BC. The bc Gay and lesbian achieve started its initial movement in the early 1970s, it started because it was a voice for the voiceless gay community. This gay liberation movement started in Vancouver bc. during this era the government, religious and psychiatric institution tagged these gay people as evil, mentally unstable, criminal and damaged people. The gay community where scared and even the press depicted them in a negative way.
The BC Gay and lesbian Achieves where taken and kept over these years since 1970s till it was given out on December 31st 2017 by Ron Dutton, a manager of BC gay and lesbian achieves. During the period of the gay liberation movement the gay community where too excited because they where liberated from oppression and forgot to keep filling and records of the event, so Ron taught it was a good idea to keep records of the events. Amongst everyone in the movement only Ron took records and for this he is the most relevant person to speak to concerning the Gay community in Vancouver.
Ron stated that ” while the law was important, and the changes on the social fabric mattered, there was a larger story there, which is about people and how they live, how they struggle through their daily lives, how they managed in times that were much more toxic than the world we where in at that point and it hadn’t ground them up”. These archives stands as a tool to tell the story about the struggle of these people. it is a tool for them to be heard, understood and honored. keeping these achieves had made all these possible.
The Gay and Lesbian Archives is an organization that began in early 1970s during the initial movement of the Gay liberation and it is an organization that was ran by Ron who officially handed over the gay and lesbian achieve to the Vancouver city Achieve that was managed by Heather .m. Gordon. The organization had taken filling and records of events that has occurred in the gay community overtime. The organization has kept archives of posters of vulnerable gay individuals and has strived in keeping relevant records.
